Soultracks.com Review
With titles like “Since You’ve Been Gone,” and “How Deep is Your Love,” one could be forgiven for thinking Alison Crockett’s latest CD Bare is a cover album.

In reality, Crockett wrote 10 of the record’s 12 tunes, and neither of the two songs mentioned above are remakes. One of the remakes, however, illustrates Crockett’s strength as a singer…

What they’re saying…
bare album cover
“I must have played So Sweet 20 times in a row…”
DJ Frances Jaye, Neo Soul Cafe

Bare truly embodies and revives what ‘real’ music and ‘real’ vocal skills are in a time when quality no longer seems to be the goal of the music industry. Bare is what good music was, is and should be. This gurl can SANG!!!!!”
Torri, Host of Sistaz Coloring Outside the Lines

Bare is gorjassssssss!”
Tracey Freeman, On the Verge

“As much as we loved her On Becoming A Woman album, [Bare] is even better — all with a sense of freshness that shows us that real soul music can still exist in world free from cliches, gimmicks, or heavy posturing… although we always expect a lot from Alison, this album’s really left us breathless…”

Greetings!

Alright New Yorkers…For all of you who say,”When are you coming to New York?!” Here I am! You’ll see me for almost a week! There will be no reason you can’t catch me on this go round. And you gotta catch each one, because, like me, each show is little different.

The record just keeps on coming, here’s what pros and just regular people are saying…

Alison produces a…melodic acoustic album with her great voice… accompanied by her piano… The highlights are the feel good piano backed ‘So Sweet’, ‘baby Smile’ and ‘Everything Is Beautiful’ with its catchy rhythm…Great listening album.
- SoulBrother Records UK

You’ll never hear this on the radio, just one of the reasons why it’s so great. A laidback, smooth and soulful sound that doesn’t rely on your run of the mill overproduced beats, instead Alsion is supported by a simple accoustic style accompaniment. A quality CD from the first track to the last track.
- Ben

This cd is great Alison. I received the cd on Saturday and I have been playing it ever since. I love it. Keep doing what you do putting out great music.
- Cherry

Party on The Q Train- oh that was a Halloween or so ago

A couple years back my partners in crime and I did something out of the ordinary. It’s still remembered to this day. A fresh and creative party for Halloween full costume on The Q Train. That was historic! Got to shout out my partners from back then– Gabe and Toni what up!

This year- doing Halloween a little differently. Encouraging you all to come out tonight in full costume. I’m hosting this fab event at NY’s Mannahatta along with Danny Castro, Voodoo Ray, Rich Nice, Daoud, Rasu, Al, L.A., Nicole Nelch (Miss Nelch), Lyrics To Go, Yaz & Pesu (Old Soul), Events RL, Dina (Sybarite Prod.), Vanessa (5th Element), Puff, Oveous Maximus, Bam Bam (Nexx Level) & family.. Music by Tony Touch and DJ Chela. It’s at Mannahatta- 316 Bowery at Bleeker. $5.00 w/ Costume and $10.00 without for everyone on guestlist. 9:00-4:00am I wanted also to give Roxy Cottontail a shout out. Her party sounds hella fun at Room Service. I hear she’s dressing as Roxy in Wonderland!

Lots going on with Melissa Young. She’s just come back from some dates on N.E Coast. Big ups to Danny at Kemp Mill in D.C. The in-store was a success. She sold out of first order of CD’s in a couple days. Shouting out Pacifia Radio and Voice of America also. Great interviews. Melissa also did a live recorded audio session which sounds superb at Jam Now studios. Several songs and interview. I recommend any artist to try and get in there studio for a session. These guys ROCK! Melissa is also #1 in CD Sales this month at Soultracks which is awesome. She’s also featured on Music Choice’s R&BSoul station with the track ‘ Stay’. Planet Soul, BET.Com ‘Listen Up’ , Yahoo’s ‘Soul Revival’ and several other outlets.

Next up – Melissa hits Detroit for The Urban Organic Festival where she’s performing on Saturday, November 17th at MOCAD- Jam session hosted by Amp Fiddler. Several great acts on the bill. She’ll also be attending The Soultracks Reader’s Choice Awards on Friday, November 16th at Riverfront Ballroom

Shooting a video to ‘Just a Girl’ in NY end of November and a few dates in S.C and N.C for December. Look for lots of press and buzz on this S.Carolina Soulstress Melissa Young

Well if you haven’t heard of Metermaids by now you are certainly missing out. An outfit of 3 comprised of Sentence, Swell and DJ Kid Caboose. Their energy is undeniable. Excitement and dynamics are of the highest degree and their musical talent and versatility is like nothing you’ve seen. You must come forth and witness.

Metermaids next show is with Brand Nubian on Saturday, November 10th at The Knitting Factory. They’re also playing with Akrobatik on November 29th at The Knitting Factory. Producer extraordinaire on the studio is Matt Stine of 27sound.

Got to pass my condolences out to Lucky Dube’s family. Heard the tragic news. He was shot to death in front of his 2 kids in S.Africa. Those not familiar with Lucky Dube. He was one of the biggest music stars in Africa… I actually had the pleasure of interviewing him years ago on WRFG in Atlanta. Very sad indeed. R.I.P

On a positive note– got this killer killer album in the mail today and I’ve already been listening to it 8 times…Can’t stop..It is absolutely fabulous and highly creative and can easily appeal to a broad audience. These are my homeboys from Holland and you’ve heard me talk about them for a few years now…C-Mon and Kypski. In fact– I did their NY Debut a couple years back at Joe’s Pub. The album is called ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and trust me– big things are on the horizon for these boys. They dropped by our Digital Cocktail Party during CMJ last week at Ariel Publicity….

MORE INFORMATION ON 10/30 NYC EVENT!!!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Poet, Author, Hip-Hop and Youth Activist, Tim’m T. West partners with SOBO Magazine for Indie Artist Showcase in New York City

Event: The Front Porch at Common Grounds Cafe

When: Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Time: 7:00 pm

Where: Common Grounds Café in Brooklyn, 376 Tompkins Avenue (between Jefferson and Putnam)

Admission: Free

Contact Information: For information on Common Grounds Café, call 718-484-4368, media inquiries can be sent to tru@reddirt.biz

The pioneering Tim’m West has partnered with the Houston-based SOBO Magazine to bring his “Front Porch” event to New York City.

The Front Porch is an eclectic and progressive showcase of soul, spoken word and hip-hop that has been a staple in Washington DC for three years and has also been hosted in Chicago and Oakland. West is preparing to launch the event in his new hometown of Atlanta, GA as well.

The event features a diverse range of critically acclaimed, forerunning artists in the independent soul, hip-hop and spoken word scene. West will serve as host of the event with Georgette Whaley, editor and co-founder of SOBO Magazine.

Hosted at Brooklyn’s Common Grounds Café, artists performing include New York City’s Baron, Nashville’s Tim Dillinger and Philadelphia’s Anam Owili-Eger and Ashley Phillips.

West says, “SOBO Magazine represents so much of what I’ve tried to foster with Front Porch events over the years: eclectic audiences, non-scripted collaboration, exposure to amazing artists often on the margins of even the indie scene, the lack of pretense that often comes with music and performance art shows that draw other artists. My hope is to support both SOBO Magazine and Common Grounds Café, by offering something groundbreaking and consistent to my old turf, Bestuy and Brooklyn. Among all the things I do, I’m most proud of the bridges I build between people. The artists participating in this event are among the best out there.”

About Tim’m West

He co-founded the notorious homo-hop group, Deep Dickollective, released two solo albums and three books. He was featured in two critically acclaimed Hip Hop documentaries: Alex Hinton’s “Pick Up The Mic” (LOGO) and Byron Hurt’s “Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes” (PBS), presenting him as one of the critical voices in Hip Hop today. With influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Sting, Tori Amos and McCoy Tyner, Anam’s brand of alternative soul music captivates audiences not only through his playing, but also through his introspective—and sometimes dark or political—lyrics of love, loneliness, madness and mortality.

Anam released his debut solo EP, These Subtle Declarations, in February 2006. His song, “The Moment,” was a finalist in the 2005 Singer/Songwriter Awards. “The Coin,” was a semifinalist in the 2005 UK Songwriting Contest. He is currently in production on his first full-length release.

Ashley Phillips www.myspace.com/ashleyphillipsband

Captivating audiences with her intimately soulful and lyrical professions of love, life, and truth, Philadelphia-born Ashley Phillips is a singer/songwriter to watch out for. Influenced heavily by jazz/funk, pop, and progressive R&B, Ashley’s unique blend of acoustic R&B and soul draws comparisons to such artists as Minnie Riperton, Amel Larrieux, Adriana Evans, and Dionne Farris.

Ashley is an OUT musician who hopes to effect the industry by remaining a visible and positive image projected to as many communities and people that can be reached.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR!!!

  • “Dawning of a New Day”, the gospel project, due for release in September of 08. Stay posted for tour information.

The online marketing site for the music community reverbnation.com continues to provide some of the best tools for artists on the web and for now these tools are FREE. Now bands can cross promote each other anywhere on the web and the tool is good for artists, managers, labels and promoters.

Reverbnation has announced the launch of TuneWidget; a better way to promote your band, and a cool way to introduce new music to your fans. What is TuneWidget exactly? For starters, imagine a miniature band website that packs pictures, music, video, band info, tour schedules (w/map), a storefront, and even a “join the mailing list” function into a space about the size of the MySpace music player. Mike Borgia, Indie musician from New York, says “It’s like carrying a website in your (virtual) pocket.” Tunewidget can be posted to social networks like MySpace, on homepages, and to almost any blog. Fans can copy and share TuneWidget with friends, spreading it virally for the musicians they love. Like all of the widgets from ReverbNation, Tunewidget is tracked so that artists know how it is spreading. Check out a sample of TuneWidget here: Tune Widget<!–

Got to shout out my partners in crime who produced The very hot Digital Cocktail party. Myself, Ariel Hyatt and Corey Denis did this very cool event during CMJ last week that attracted bloggers, vloggers, internet radio, podcasters, labels and artists. We had over 75 people come through the Ariel Publicity offices. This is definitely the sign of things to come in Cyberspace and a new era in PR and Marketing. Artists were delighted because they got to knock out several interviews in one go. Some of the podders, bloggers, internet radio and live streams were: IndieFeed Me.dium Pandora Woozyfly EVR Digital Freedom Jason Van Orden Radio Crystal Blue Hit Radio MIAA NY Sun and more

The enthusiasm was overwhelming and everyone was very receptive. Looks like we’ll have to do it up big time during CMJ next time. Mini Conference?

Whew- lots to get through but hope you gained some valuable information and caught on to some cool events and happenings. Definitely please check my site out for updates at The Bloom Effect

The Bloom Blog which just launched. The Bloom Blog
