Kendra Ross – Upcoming Shows, YouTube Video and More!!

First of all I would like to thank each and every one of you who came out to the Shadow Lounge show in Pittsburgh. It meant a lot to me to look out into the audience and see so many smiling and familiar faces. Stay tuned because we are coming back to the Burgh real soon but next time we hope to bring the whole band!

Next, I am very excited to announce my first artist showcase called, “Lola’s Child Music Presents…Kendra Ross and Friends” which will feature the brightest new artists on the music scene. The first one will showcase the talent of two of my dearest friends on earth: Ms. Key and Nicole Hamilton. Many of you who have been to my live shows will recognize them as the beautiful young ladies who sing along with me. Well they are both amazing artists in their own right so you don’t want to miss this show.

Key is a former Toshiba/EMI Recording artist whose debut album was a critical and commercial success in Japan. She is currently working on her sophomore effort.

Nicole Hamilton is one of two great songwriters and producers that make up H2O Productions which creates masterpieces for artists like Eric Roberson, Kenny Lattimore, Chante Moore, and yours truly!

Again…you don’t want to miss this show. Details listed below. I hope to see you there!

The Upstairs’ at The Renaissance and BET’s Beauty Blackout!!

– Vol 1, Issue 1

Friends and Fam

I can’t wait for warm weather- I know it’s coming!! This past weekend I hosted The Nu-Soul Series which is a once a month new artist showcase featuring great soul music. It’s at Frank’s Lounge in Fort Greene.

It’s becoming a hot bed for new talent in the soul scene and everyone seems to be coming out once a month to discover these hot new artists. It’s a nice mix of industry, fans, producers, artists and dj’s. A very cool vehicle for launching an album and setting off your promotion.

This past series featured the astounding and astonishing Nigerian born KUKU who lives in D.C now. KUKU Tasha Mabry from Brooklyn who destroyed it in her inspiring performance and a listening session for Sparlha Swa’s new album ‘Live from NY’.

I leave for Barbados this week which I’m very excited about. Need to recharge those batteries and get some color and I’ll be back next week all glowing.

And…If you haven’t checked out ‘The Upstairs’ at The Renaissance Hotel – don’t miss out. Come this Wednesday. It’s quickly becoming the hottest after work party on Wednesdays in Midtown!

The Upstairs– a new after work weekly party kicked off on April 30th at the gorgeous newly re-designed Renaissance Hotel Times Square.

Musical treats from Dhundee and Moni and the synergy and chemistry between this pairing is contagious. Non-Stop. Stop by and enjoy signature cocktails from Sagatiba Cachaça. The Milk Honey crew designed the cocktail list and Chop Suey restaurant chef’s Zak Pelaccio and Will Goldfarb provide light fare to entice your taste buds.

This is rapidly becoming one of the hottest after work hangs on Wednesdays in Midtown– Come find out why!!!

See you at THE UPSTAIRS… This week got to shout out Thembisa Mshaka who is hosting her Book Toast this Wednesday for ‘Handle Your (Entertainment) Business’. Yours truly is an interview subject in the book. It will be out in Spring ’09.

BET makes history in the UK with it’s first hard-hitting news special specifically for a British audience – “Beauty Blackout.” Native Brit and BET correspondent Sharon Carpenter takes a candid look at England’s beauty industry and it’s discriminatory practices. From high fashion to high street ad campaigns to glamour modeling,

Black and Asian girls are rarely represented. Speaking with top celebrities like Alesha Dixon and Jamelia and industry experts such as Britain’s Next Top Model judge, Gerry Deveaux, Carpenter gets to the bottom of why women of color are absent from the UK’s concept of beauty.

This is something you definitely don’t want to miss!!! Check it out May 26th at 8.30pm!!

Own Your Power 2 day retreat has announced dates. September 19-21st in Ft. Lauderdale.

Also hailing from Atlanta- young up and coming immensely talented vocalist/songwriter with Jazzy sensibilities, sophisticated soul and a touch of spoken word and hip hop flavor- April Hill has it all. Wide broad appeal.

Upcoming dates for April Hill in Atlanta are: Centennial Park.. Harmony in Life on May 24th. June 5th in D.C at Andalu. and SOL VILLAGE- June 15th, NYC

Her debut album ‘Love 360’ is a very strong debut. Well produced, great songs, very catchy melodies and excellent vocals. She tied w/ Anthony David for most added single for ‘Wanna Be Free’ in R&R last week. Radio request campaign for WHUR and WCLK in effect and a Remix Contest underway soon…

Get to know April Hill before the rest of the world does!!!!

Atlanta’s Heston just left NYC. Had a great response here from a growing audience who can’t wait to have him back. His debut album ‘Storyteller’ to much anticipation drops in August.

The Bob Marley Tribute was highly successful. Sugar Hill was packed with Reggae and Soul enthusiasts. We need to bring it up to NY

Heston!Heston’s available for interviews and advances of ‘Storyteller’ are out this week. He’s back in NY the week of July 16th doing dates in NY, and Philly.

He’s also featured on this podcast.. special shouts to Armand Tulumello Please call up Music Choice and request and respond to Heston’s 2 tracks that have been added. ‘Brand New You’ and ‘Distant Lover’ – We love you Music Choice and Akim Bryant….Big ups!!!

The lovely Cuban/Mexican Houston based Karina Nistal blends hip hop and Latin rhythms with a soulful house sound and a twist of club/electro coupled with a voice to die for and sensuality for days.

Karina debuted in NY for A-Town, H-Town at 205 Club back in Feb and will be back to give NYC another taste sometime in The Fall.

In meantime– just announced that Karina along with her full band will be performing live at I GOT SOUL in Dallas on Saturday, June 14th at Harwood Stage. 9PM. Very excited!
