A dance party with Live music!…..
Fertile Ground “The Heavyweights of the Underground” hail from Baltimore
Maryland. They are often classified as Soul-Jazz. However, their musical
genre can be described as a cross-cultural fusion of all things spiritual
mixed with funk, and political fused with pure spontaneity and raw,
danceable compositions. With a sound inspired by Fela Kuti, Stevie
Wonder, Santana, and Earth Wind & Fire, this band has the requisite
strength, depth and energy that electrify crowds every where they play.
Wunmi (aka Wunmigirl) Wunmi has become known for her endless
spontaneous energy, combined with her trademark outfits, hi-octane
dance moves, a super-tight band lead by Jeremy Mage.. In the world of
dance music, Wunmi is highly recognized as an artist who effortlessly
joins the dots between Nigeria’s Afrobeat heritage, New York’s house
pedigree, and London’s jazz, broken beat and classic street soul
sounds. On-stage Wunmi is a revelation and an infectious spirit that
draws in crowds wherever she plays http://www.myspace.com/wunmigirl
Asiko Afrobeat ensemble was formed in 2003 by the multi-talented singer,
percussionist Foly Kolade, a native of Ogidi, Nigeria. Known for its
high-voltage blend of Funk, Jazz and West African rhythms, Asiko’s
powerful lyrics speak truth to the spirit of the late Fela Kuti. Asiko’s
addictive melodies and propulsive rhythms work conjointly with the
spiritual strength of African drums, to the melodic harmonies of the
guitar, keyboard, and bass, combined with the horn sounds of the 21st
century. In 2006, Asiko was awarded best Afropop band & Entertainer of
the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards. Put on your dancing
shoes and prepare yourself for a musical journey to Nigeria and back.
