Soul Summit Update

From the desk of Terry Bello
Executive Producer & Creator
The International Soul Music Summit (ISMS)

REFLECTIONS
Sometimes you have to check yourself in the face of adversity. Forgive me while I was away. Nine months ago I lost my soulmate, someone precious to me and I needed to take a minute to come to grips with some truths about life, friendship, love and music.

Thank you to those that stood by me and helped me up and to those whose criticisms helped me realize that a complaint is a gift and an opportunity to take a step back and remember what the vision is.

Thank you to those that loved me unconditionally as I went through my mourning period. I am only human and through my pain, you stood by me.

Thank you to the musicians and singers, the soul music industry executives both mainstream and independent for the making and sharing of the musical art of soul. Soul music saved me. Whereas on a daily basis professionally, I do all I can for the cause of soul music, the music and the music makers have touched me in a very real and personal way in the last nine months.

WHERE WE ARE
I am renewed and determined in my commitment to the soul music community. The 2nd Annual International Soul Music Summit is back and will be even better than last year’s summit. The theme this year is “THE UNDERGROUND MEETS MAINSTREAM: How Do We Connect?” and the response has been phenomenal. The ISMS dates are July 25 – 29, 2007.

So far we have 1,800 registrations with people coming from as far away as Germany. Heineken and BETJ have signed on as major sponsors. Major label executives, commercial radio executives, managers, retail store executives, soul music concert promoters and major soul music artists both with major label distribution and independent distribution have committed to speak on panels, showcase and network in an effort to spark dialogue and build our community.

WHY YOU NEED TO BE THERE
If soul music is important to you and you recognize the importance of taking it to the next level, please stand up. We need you to represent yourself and your company in a show of solidarity. No one person can do what needs to be done to bring soul music the level of respect it is due commercially, we need everyone to participate. We need you.

At present, we are 40 days out and we have decided to do a mail-in special. If you mail your registration in by July10, 2007, you can register for $60. There is one small catch. It must be postmarked by July 10, 2007. All mailed registrations received that are postmarked July 11th or later will be returned. The address for registration is:

2870 Peachtree Road
Suite 404
Atlanta, GA 30305

You can also register at http://www.soulsummitonline.com.

IN CONCLUSION
Nine months ago I almost didn’t bounce back. Soul music kept me alive. Soul music is real. It’s spiritual. My literal and figurative house was cluttered and soul music brought me answers. I remembered why I started this summit and that its not about me but about the music. If you believe in the importance of this music and the networking and support necessary to keep it alive, share this email with your friends and colleagues. Register and attend the International Soul Music Summit. Save the soul.

Musically yours,
